Black women are more likely to die from pregnancy in Texas than any other race. But a new report from the state says it has nothing to do with income, education, or even insurance.
A state task force began looking at maternal mortality after reports claimed Texas had an unusually high number of women dying during or just after pregnancy. As we've reported, that number was deemed inaccurate. While Texas is still higher than most, your chances of pregnancy related deaths remain slim – but they happen.
Rep. Shawn Thierry wants to end that. She's been championing this issue, and stopped by to give us an update.
