Man suspected of killing his wife, then triggering SWAT standoff has shot himself

KATY, TX - Investigators say that the man accused of killing his wife and triggering a swat standoff in a Fort Bend County apartment complex is in the hospital in serious condition.

Fort Bend County’s Sheriff says they got a call around 5 a.m. this morning from the suspect’s sister. She told them her brother confessed to killing his wife and threatened to turn the gun on himself. Harris County deputies found his wife dead in a Katy apartment complex. The husband then barricaded himself inside an apartment about 2 miles away in Fort Bend county.  A SWAT team broke into the unit and used tear gas after the man wouldn’t come out.

The couple has a 2-year-old who was not inside the apartment and is with family. Investigators haven’t released the names of the victim or suspect.

Deputies initially  responded to a SWAT situation of the husband barricaded inside the apartments, located at 2425 Katy-Flewellen road at 5 a.m. Authorities discovered the SWAT incident was related to a woman's homicide at 21101 Kingsland Boulevard in West Harris County. Investigators said that the woman had been shot in the head in an apparent domestic dispute.
