Man found with guns in hotel room cleared of assault charge

HOUSTON (FOX 26) - The man arrested at a downtown Houston hotel, who had guns in his room, is facing one less charge.

A grand jury cleared Russell Ziemba of an assault charge. His firearms and ammunition will also be released. A criminal trespass charge is still pending.

Police were called to the hotel following a report that a man had too much to drink and refused to leave the bar. Police say he fought with security and they tried to escort him back to his room but he was kicked out of the hotel. When police arrived, they arrested him.

Officers went to his room to get his things, and that's when police found weapons and ammunition.

Early in the investigation, police said due to the limited amount of ammunition and other investigative findings, they did not believe Ziemba had any intent to harm anyone.  Police said Ziemba told officers he kept the guns in his hotel room so they wouldn't be stolen from his vehicle.
