Firefighters were responding to a medical call when patient David Pham, 66, pulled out a gun and fired two shots, the Houston Fire Department says.

Officials say the crew had to wrestle the gun away from Pham. No injuries were reported.

Pham allegedly fired shots at two Houston Fire Department paramedics in the 12100 block of Sela at about 9 a.m. Neither paramedic was injured.

After being detained, the suspect said he buried a body in the backyard of his home in the 12300 block of Ridgeside. Detectives dug up the backyard of the residence and said they made no such discovery.

Pham then said he made up the story. He was questioned, taken to jail and will face two counts of aggravated assault of a public servant.

“Thankfully our firefighters were not injured. This is another example of the unpredictable nature of our business and the dangers firefighters can face. Im proud of their dedication to the wellness of our community and thank God they are safe,” Chief Sam Pena said.
