HPD: Officer discharged weapon, did not strike carjacking suspect

The Houston Police Department says an officer discharged his duty weapon when a carjacking suspect drove toward the officer, but the suspect was not struck.

Investigators responded to the scene in the 7800 block of West Bellfort Avenue on Monday afternoon.

Police say officers spotted a stolen vehicle from a carjacking last week, but when they tried to approach the car, the suspect gunned it and drove toward them.

The department says that's when an officer shot at the vehicle. Police say the driver was injured after he drove into a tree.

The suspect is facing a carjacking charge and will also be charged with aggravated assault of a police officer.
