Houstonians celebrate Women's Equality Day

HOUSTON - On this day 95-years ago American women received the right to vote.  To mark the anniversary this is called "Women's Equality Day".  How Houstonians are celebrating?
                                     
“I'm going to put it right here.  Thank you so much,” an Uber worker smiles at a clothing donor, places a bag in the trunk and the donated duds head for their destination Dress For Success Houston.  The chauffeur driven donations are part of an uber cool partnership on this special day.  “Women's Equality Day is really exciting for us because we're all about empowering women,” smiles Lauren Levicki Courville with Dress For Success.
     
On this Women's Equality Day the transportation service Uber is picking up donated professional clothing, for free, and taking it to Houston's Dress For Success.

“I took the whole summer off with my kids and now it's back to work again.  I went to Workforce to get a little help because I really didn't have the money to buy my own outfits,” explains Dress For Success client Sabrina Sigler.

Women headed to a job interview or career fair can come into Dress For Success, shop and obtain an outfit on the house.

“We have incredible, beautiful donated suits, shoes and handbags,” adds Courville.

After trying on a few different things, Sigler decides on a polished and professional skirt suit for her big job interview next week.  “Gives you a lot more confidence.  You feel better about yourself.  When you look good on the outside it definitely makes an impact”. 

Houston’s Dress For Success has dressed over 1,500 area women so far this year.  45% of those ladies landed the job.  Every Dress For Success client receives interview preparation skills and ”She gets accessories, a full pant or skirt suit, a blouse, closed toe shoes, a pearl set, scarf and a handbag” explains Courville.  You can still drop off donations to Dress For Success at 3310 Eastside Street between W. Alabama and Richmond Avenue.  The non-profit group has a specific need, currently, for size 6.5, 8 and 8.5 professional closed toe shoes.
