Houston weather: Icy road locations; is it safe to drive right now?
HOUSTON - Houston roads are still icy on Wednesday morning with dozens of trouble spots being reported.
Is it safe to drive Wednesday morning?
The Houston Fire Department is warning that dangerous road conditions have not yet passed. They ask people to stay home and stay safe.
HFD says they have responded to an increased number of car accidents since Tuesday evening. The Northwest Volunteer Fire Department on Wednesday morning said they were working multiple accidents on SH 249 at Beltway 8 due to ice and asked everyone to stay home unless it's an emergency.
What they're saying:
"Roadways became very challenging last night. We had several major accidents along the roadways," Brian Mason, emergency management coordinator with the City of Houston Office of Emergency Management, said on Wednesday. "We are going to warm up today. We're going to get into the mid-40s throughout the day. But if people could please help us out, stay off the roads till 10, noon would be ideal, but till 10 or 11 in the morning. So we have a chance for some of this black ice out there to melt."
