Hogansville Police officer arrested on drug distribution charges
HOGANVILLE, Ga. - A Hogansville Police officer was arrested for marijuana possession with intent to distribute.
Coweta County Sheriff's deputies arrested Hogansville Officer Daniel Kemp. The 23-year-old officer was immediately placed on administrative leave.
"It is a very open department, and uh it is a very close-knit community and of course there are different opinions, but we are trying to be as transparent as we can," said Hogansville Police Chief Brian Carr.
During the administrative investigation, Hogansville Police said they found a bag containing what officers believe was marijuana in Kemp's take-home car.
"We know that this officer was a friend in the community, but we just have to have some patience and some trust that we are going to take care of the community and as soon as we have some answers we are going to share it," the chief said.
Kemp has now resigned from the Hogansville Police Department. He was released from the Coweta County Jail on $20,000 bond.
Kemp declined to comment and referred all questions to his attorney.
