Bush Intercontinental Airport  lifted a weather-related ground stop around 4:20 p.m. Travelers can expect departing flights to be delayed around an hour.

Free Press Summer Festival officials announced shortly before 6:30 p.m. that the remainder of FPSF was cancelled.

Earlier in the day, Free Press Summer Festival officials issued an evacuation of the festival temporarily due to lightning in the area. FPSP said performances would be suspended for at least an hour. Attendees were asked to take shelter in the parking garages adjacent to the main entrances.

Thunderstorms hit Galveston County and Chambers County hard this morning, dumping 3 to 7 inches of water. Rains prompted a Flash Flood warning for Galveston County that expired at 1 p.m.  In Galveston, the rain flooded parts of Broadway and many of the side streets were impassable. Beachgoers were washed out for the morning and much of the afternoon as there was continuous thunder and lightening. There were a few stalled cars near Broadway where there was high water, but for the most part people kept off the roadways.
