Deputies believe that a teen who reported finding a newborn baby girl abandoned in a wooded area in north Harris County made up the story and is actually the person who gave birth to the baby in an apartment.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office says the 17-year-old girl initially reported finding a baby near a wooded area after hearing crying while walking along the road. The teen told deputies she took the baby back to her apartment and called the hospital who instructed her to call 9-1-1. Deputies now believe she made up the story.
According to the sheriff, it is believed the teen gave birth to the baby in an apartment shortly before calling the hospital and the baby was never in the wooded area.
The baby girl was taken to a hospital where she was treated for dehydration and is said to be in good condition.
The Crimes Against Children Unit is investigating. Investigators are trying to determine why the teen would make up the story and if anyone else is involved.
