HCSO investigating officer-involved shooting in northwest Harris County

A deputy-involved shooting left one man dead in a church parking lot in northwest Harris County on Monday afternoon.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said his office had been looking for the man since Sunday night when he allegedly stabbed another man and stole his car.

On Monday, deputies say a couple of repo men were able to track down a car to Beltway 8 and Tanner but called police after seeing the man was unconscious inside. Authorities say when the EMTs arrived, the man regained consciousness and pulled a knife out on them before fleeing the scene in the car he was found in.

Authorities were able to catch up with the suspect in the parking lot of a church in the 6600 block of Addicks Satsuma Road. According to the sheriff’s department, a Harris County deputy and DPS trooper were on the scene, when the man exited the vehicle and produced the knife. The deputy fired multiple shots at the man, killing him, HCSO says.

“He’s been on approximately 28 years, so he’s a seasoned veteran deputy, many years out here patrolling this area, I believe 19 years of his career have been out here,” says Sheriff Gonzalez. “These are always difficult days for everyone. These situations are never easy. But we want to make sure that we are professional, detailed, that we’re thorough."

As per procedure, Harris County Sheriff’s Office, internal affairs and the DA’s office will conduct separate investigations into this shooting.
