FOX 26 recognized for "Diversity in the Classroom" special
HOUSTON (FOX 26) - FOX 26/KRIV General Manager D'Artagnan Bebel, Vice President of News Bob Morford, and reporter Isiah Carey received an award from the Houston Independent School District for a special focused on bullying in schools.
The special "Diversity in the Classroom" examined the plight of students who endured bullying in school.
"When we come across a story like this that needs to be told, that begs to be told, this is something that's not only an honor, it's a duty to get this sort of story out there," Morford said.
"We do more hours of local news than any other station in the Houston market," Bebel said. "And as such, we have the ability to go deeper. I know it's corny sounding, but in reality, it's something we want to do, and we have done in the past."
"October is National Anti-Bullying Awareness Month, what a better time to present FOX 26 News with a resolution of all the things that you did to prevent bullying in our schools," HISD Trustee, Wanda Adams said.
"Diversity in the Classroom" aired in April, and is now in some classrooms in Houston. The 30-minute special was also nominated for an Emmy award last month.
