Former convict turns life around, becomes professional chef
He’s gone from serving time in prison for drug charges to being a best-selling author and reality star. That man is Chef Jeff and you may know him from his many cooking shows on the Food Network.
Chef Jeff from Los Angeles went to prison for cocaine. He learned to cook behind bars. Once released in 1998 he moved to Las Vegas eventually becoming the executive chef at the Bellagio and from there the rest is history. Anchor Isiah Carey caught up with Chef Jeff in Houston and his goal is take make sure other ex-offenders know there is a second chance.
"There's been many organizations and folks out there who gave me a second chance after my incarceration, and I put in the work," Chef Jeff says. "You know, my focus here at Blacks in Criminal Justice Association is to talk about hope and training and programs that help men and women become better version of themselves and be productive people in society once they're released."
