Driver facing new charges after woman injured in crash dies
A driver is facing new charges after a woman injured in a crash on Saturday died from her injuries, authorities say.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office says a charge of intoxication manslaughter and a charge of failure to stop and render aid will be filed on Jeramie Doucet, 32.
Over the weekend, Doucet was charged with two counts of intoxication assault in a vehicle crash that ended with four people taken to hospitals, two of them in critical condition. One of those injured in the crash has since died.
Deputies say Doucet was driving a Mercedes Benz sedan at a high rate of speed on FM 1960 near the Northwest Freeway on Saturday when it crashed into the back of a stopped Ford Expedition with two females inside. Both of those females were taken to hospitals in critical condition.
The crash also caused the Expedition to strike other vehicles. Two other people were taken to hospitals with injuries determined not to be life-threatening.
Harris County Sheriff's Office investigators say Doucet tried to drive away from the crash site but was taken into custody by deputies.
