HOUSTON (FOX 26) - We're hearing for the first time from the alleged mistress of Derion Vence, who is charged with tampering with a corpse in connection to the death of Maleah Davis.
That woman is telling us she met Derion Vence online about a year ago, and that despite the fact that Vence was engaged to Brittany Bowens, the mother of Maleah Davis, they carried on an intimate relationship. She claims Vence was hesitant about leaving Bowens because he didn’t think she was a good parent, so in April they decided to just remain friends.
"It was always an obstacle in the relationship. He was debating if he was staying or leaving, so I was OK with it. And then as time went by it seemed like he was more OK with being in a relationship, and so I left it alone," says the former mistress, and that they still kept in touch, sending text messages and photos.
She says she didn’t have any contact with Derion Vence during the time Maleah Davis was missing. Now that he is the only person charged in the case, his former mistress believes he is innocent of harming Maleah, placing the blame on Maleah’s mom, Brittany Bowens.
"A friendship's a friendship, and I would hate to see somebody, even if it was my family, I would hate to see somebody in jail without a support system or anybody to actually stick up for what type of person they were when they can’t stick up for themselves," she said.
She's the woman Quanell X spoke with two days before he visited Derion Vence in jail and got the confession that led to the discovery of Maleah's remains in Arkansas.
"When I met him today, I was able to share certain things about my conversation with his mistress," Quanell X said.
"She talked a lot about she thought that Derion was going to leave Brittany to be with her because she said that’s what Derion was telling her. She’s pro Derion, and so whatever she thinks will support and help Derion coming from her, that’s what she’s going to do," he said.
Quanell X spoke with the former mistress multiple times before he obtained a confession from Vence and the location of Maleah’s body. The confession is something the former mistress is suspicious about.
"How did you know you are how did you know you already had a confession if you had not met with Derion yet? You weren’t meeting with Derion for two days after," she says.
"If the confession was bogus well how I found the body? I mean it didn’t just fall out the sky where she was. It didn’t fall out the sky what happened to her. These were things that came directly from her lover," he said in response.
Now, we hear from the person Derion was allegedly texting.
"Well I know Derion isn't gay. For a fact he puts females' numbers under guys' numbers so Brittany won't find them," says the mistress.
She says she met Derion over a year ago on the "Tagged" social website, but Maleah's mom Brittany found Derion's profile about a year ago.
"Brittany one time had messaged me on this website and threatened me," she said.
That's when she allegedly asked Derion to change her name in his phone.
"I told Derion, 'You've got my number. Put it under a guy's number so Brittany doesn't know it's me,'" she said.
"We send each other pictures, and just crazy pictures," she said.
She claims she never met Maleah and didn't reach out to Derion after Maleah was reported missing on May 4th. She waited until he was in jail to write.
"If I talk to Derion, and then people would think I know something, or I was involved. I was not involved, and I would rather just stay my distance while all this is going on, and be in the background and figure it out," she says. "After she went missing, I have not talked to Derion," she said. "I write Derion letters in jail all the time."
We are still waiting for the medical examiner to determine what was the cause of death for Maleah Davis. Quanell X tells me he is still involved with the case, and is putting most of his focus on making sure Maleah receives a proper burial.
She says she write Derion to tell him how he's being portrayed in the news. She cancelled a meeting with detectives about the case because of a threat to arrest her.
Police tell FOX 26 there are felony warrants out for her arrest for crimes in other states.
