Data error leaves some Houston ISD employees paid too much/little

Thousands of Houston Independent School District employees are getting a surprise as they check their bank accounts. Because of a computer-based error, thousands of people in the district are doing double takes at their direct deposits, FOX 26 News has learned.

A 2014 direct deposit file was used for payroll instead of the 2016 data some Houston ISD employees have received less in their checks while others were actually overpaid.

A spokeswoman for the Houston Federation of Teachers also says some retirees were paid and they shouldn't have been while at least one laid-off employee also received a check and she's no longer on the books.

Houston ISD issued a statement to FOX 26 that confirmed thousands of employees who received their direct deposits a day early have been affected, though also said the issue was quickly identified and corrected.

Back at the union, officials there say they're hoping the district will have the problem corrected by Wednesday because members need their money.
