Crooks sneak into your bank account.

What if you were to get a credit posted into your bank account?  That would be a good thing right? Well, maybe not.

Crooks have figured out a way get into your bank account without raising as many red flags. Here's what a viewer shared with us.

The scam involves Macy's, or at least the consumer is supposed to think its Macy's.  When our viewer looked at her Bank of America checking account balance, she noticed 6 credits posted to her account.

All of the purchase credits came from Macy's.com.  They ranged in amounts from $18 to $160 dollars. All 6 were credited into her bank account on the same day through her debit card.

But the debit card number on the statement didn't match her real card number. Somehow someone had used a fake debit card number to deposit money into her bank account.

Normally a purchase credit to your bank account wouldn't raise a red flag.  That usually happens when money is mysteriously taken out of our accounts.  Crooks know this. That's why they may be trying a different way of fishing for bank account numbers. Turns our viewer has a Macy's account and knew any money coming from Macy's would be posted into her Macy's account not her bank account.

Our viewer canceled her debit card.  But by then the crook had reprocessed two of the credits and made them debits...essentially getting some of his money back.

Macy's and the Federal Trade Commission are looking into this possible scam.

Be sure you check your bank account regularly.
