Car chase ends in deadly crash

With debris scattered across the road, troopers investigate what all led up to the crash on State Highway 6 near Schiller Road. It started with a simple traffic stop at 6 a.m. Saturday. A trooper stopped the driver of a 2012 red convertible Mustang.

“The Texas Department of Public Safety trooper observed the vehicle traveling down a road over the posted speed limit," says Texas DPS Sergeant Stephen Woodard. "The trooper then activated his emergency lights to get the vehicle or to secure the vehicle on a traffic stop and then the vehicle flight away from the way from the trooper by vehicle. The vehicle passed through several, disregarded several red traffic signals.”

That suspect crashed into the driver side of a Honda.

“The driver is a 17-year-old male," Sgt. Woodard. "He was driving a vehicle that was in fact reported stolen by the Houston Police Department.”

Police say the suspect is 17-year-old Chidi Onunkwo. He was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital, but has since been arrested for felony evading.

“The victim of the crash is a 60-year-old female from Houston and at this point in time, we are grieving with this family because this is an unfortunate incident,” says Sgt. Woodard.

The victim has been identified as Adorn Strambler.

“This is an unfortunate situation and this is something we are still looking at, this is still an ongoing investigation,” says Sgt. Woodard.

Further charges are still pending against Onunkwo.
