Bar opens in spite of Florence for Carolina Panthers game

Despite mass power outages and destruction in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence, a Wilmington bar opened its doors to let fans watch the Carolina Panthers game

The Husk, located on Front Street in historic downtown Wilmington, was the sole establishment open in that area, running on generators brought in by the owners and other businesses.

"We knew we needed to be open Sunday," said owner Justin Smith. "It's been amazing because so many other businesses have chipped in to help."

The entire event became a neighborhood affair. People donated food, others their time to set up. For three hours the community was able to come together and forget about the floods and damage.

It's amazing what a generator and a heart can do for a community.
