1 deputy dead, others injured in Colorado Springs shooting

A deputy is dead and three other law enforcement officers are injured after a shooting in Colorado Springs. Police say the suspect is dead and there is no continuing threat to the community.

According to the Colorado Springs police chief, officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department, Colorado State Patrol, and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office were investigating a motor vehicle theft in Colorado Springs on Monday afternoon. They encountered an adult male suspect, a struggle ensued, and shots were fired, the chief says.

According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Department, a deputy was injured in the shooting and has died. The Colorado Springs Police Department says a civilian, two other El Paso County Sheriff’s Department deputies, and a Colorado Springs police officer were also injured in the shooting and have been transported to the hospital.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Department identified the deceased deputy as Micah Flick. He is survived by his wife and 7-year-old twins. Today was his 11-year anniversary with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
