Nelson Creek Fire: Walker County wildfire 90% contained

The Nelson Creek Fire, a wildfire burning north of Huntsville and south of the Trinity River in Walker County, is an estimated 1,877 acres and 90% contained as of Wednesday afternoon, according to the Texas A&M Forest Service.

How wildfires get their names

Unlike hurricanes and tropical storms, whose storm names are determined by a central authority, naming wildfires are left up to the fire unit, incident commander, or dispatch center in the jurisdiction where the fire began.
