Tropical Weather Forecast - August 13, 2021
Fred will become a tropical storm over the weekend and will stay very close to Florida. It will make landfall sometime on Sunday and then swing back to the northeast. We are now tracking Tropical Depression 7 and it will probably become Tropical Storm Grace over the weekend. It appears it will take a similar path as Fred and will not posed a threat to the Gulf of Mexico. We are definitely getting into the height of hurricane season which doesn?t peak until the second week of September.

Following high heat and isolated severe storms yesterday, the outlook for today, the weekend and beyond looks pretty similar overall. Expect mid-90s for afternoon highs with a daily round of pop-up thunderstorms. Tropical Depression Fred will bring rain to Florida this weekend. We're also watching a tropical wave in the Atlantic that could pose a threat to the east coast of the US next week as a hurricane.

Fred is now a tropical depression and will be near Cuba over the next couple of days. It is not expected to strengthen again until it reaches the eastern Gulf of Mexico. We are now watching another system developing in the middle of the Atlantic and it appears to be heading in the same direction as Fred.

We should have a bit wider coverage of showers and storms with a weak area of low pressure overhead. Yesterday's high was 98 and today's should be closer to 95. The rest of the forecast for Friday, the weekend and beyond includes a very average August pattern. No worries in the short term from the tropics. Tropical depression Fred is still pointed at Florida, but is disorganized and weak today.

Wednesday weather forecast
The heat is on with a heat advisory now in effect through 8 p.m. tonight. Other than a few late-day storms, there won't be much relief from the heat. Look for a slightly better rain chance beginning tomorrow, but overall, our outlook remains very typical for mid-August. Tropical Storm Fred is fairly small and unimpressive as of this morning, but could bring lots of rain to the Dominican Republic and Haiti today and tonight.

It's not a depression or storm yet, but Tropical Storm Fred will form over the next day or so. It will likely remain somewhat weak until the weekend when it enters the Gulf near Florida and could strengthen some before making landfall. It doesn?t look like a threat to Texas, but we will keep a close eye on it.

A Heat Advisory is now in effect for all counties in our area until 7 p.m. The combination of highs in the mid 90s with very high humidity could lead to a heat index as high as 110 degrees. Please get in the AC when possible, stay hydrated and take frequent breaks.

Not much day to day variability is expected this week. Highs each day should reach the mid 90s with lows close to 80 and a daily round of isolated storms. The heat index will hover near 105 in the mid afternoons. We're watching a couple of tropical waves moving toward the Caribbean this week, but there's no immediate threat.

Houston is locked into an August weather pattern this week. There should be a few more showers and downpours on Monday afternoon, the humidity levels will be very high. The rest of the week keeps afternoon highs in the mid-90s and 30-40 percent chances for rain. The National Hurricane Center is monitoring 2 Tropical Waves out in the Atlantic but nothing is expected in the Gulf of Mexico for a while.
