Yates star Jacob Young signs with UT hoops

Yates basketball star Jacob Young realized a dream by signing Wednesday with the University of Texas.

Young comes from great bloodlines. His father, Michael, was a star at the University of Houston during the Phi Slama Jama days. His brother, Joseph, was a star at Oregon who is now a rookie with the NBA's Indiana Pacers.

For Jacob Young, this day was the culmination of what he's always wanted.

"It's a dream come true," he said. "It's an opportunity I've been waiting on since I was a baby. Texas has always been my dream school. It's just a dream come true."

"As a kid, he would always be walking around the house with Texas stuff on," Michael Young said. "He's always loved Texas and I'm really glad that the opportunity came about. (It) turned out to be a great, great situation."

Jacob Young is a big believer in Shaka Smart, who's starting his first year as UT's men's basketball head coach.

"It's mainly just the system," Young said. "I like the defensive intensity that he brings to the Texas program.

"I really just want to win the national championship. That's one thing we've really been talking about is winning the national championship. That's really our main goal for next year."
