Texas interviews UH baseball coach Todd Whitting

College baseball sources confirmed that University of Texas athletics director Mike Perrin interviewed University of Houston baseball coach Todd Whitting as UT Searches for a new coach.

The Austin American Statesman first reported the news.

Sources told FOX 26 Sports the interview took place in Houston, and that Texas received permission from UH to meet with Whitting.

Whitting, who has been UH’s baseball coach since 2010, led the Cougars to the American Athletic Conference regular season title in 2015, and to the AAC postseason tournament title the year before.

In 2014 Whitting led UH to 48 regular season wins, tying the school record, before losing to Texas in the Austin Super Regional.

The Cougars defeated LSU in the Baton Rouge Regional before advancing to meet the Longhorns in 2014.

Whitting and UH officials have not been available for comment.
