Rice baseball Coach Wayne Graham, who turned the Owls program into a national power, is on the verge of seeing his team play on the international stage in front of a country that adores the game of baseball

Sources told FOX 26 Sports Rice University is in the process of planning a trip for Owls baseball to play in Cuba.

While definitive dates have not been nailed down, Rice is expected to play in Cuba around the Thanksgiving Day Holiday.

The Owls are expected to play several exhibition games against teams affiliated with the Cuban Baseball Federation.

While Major League Baseball has already played a game in Cuba since the re-instatement of diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Cuba, Rice would be the first college team to play there since that historic decision was reached.

Rice officials have not been available for comment on the planned trip for Owls baseball to Cuba.
