West Orem crash: Construction worker killed, another hospitalized
HOUSTON - One person has been confirmed dead after a crash in southwest Houston on Thursday morning.
Investigators with the Houston Police Department's vehicular crimes division are at the scene.

What we know:
The crash took place around 8:45 a.m. in the 4000 block of West Orem Drive at White Heather Drive.
HPD Commander D. Crawford says it appears a construction crew was working on a sidewalk and had the right lane blocked off for safety.

A Nissan Sentra driven by a man believed to be 39-years-old ignored traffic barrels and hit a construction worker, who died at the scene, police say. He then hit a second worker, causing serious injuries, and narrowly avoided hitting a third.
Commander Crawford states the vehicle crashed into a utility pole before spinning into the intersection and then crashing into a Lexus. The driver of that vehicle was not injured.
The driver of the Nissan was detained after showing signs of intoxication.
What's next:
According to Commander Crawford, charges are pending against the driver.
