Conroe Police say a man is behind bars charged with four counts of intoxication manslaughter after a car crash killed a family with two young children.  The accident involved two cars and a Jeep.  Traffic was backed up for hours in both directions on State Highway 150.

“It was a boom and there was lots of sirens that followed I was listening to see if life flight was coming,” Sarah Jones said.

Police say inside the green car with not much left to it was a family with a boy and girl they describe as “preschool age.”

“It's unfortunate what happened because we have two kids ourselves. It's just a horrific thing just to think about,” Larry Jones said.

It happened before 1:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon.  Police are still investigating exactly what led to the crash.

The family died at the scene.

Two teenagers inside the Jeep were rushed to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police say the suspect is the driver of the silver car, 68-year-old Ronald Cooper.  He’s charged with two counts of intoxication assault and four counts of intoxication manslaughter.

“I would just again say that we said several times do not drink and drive and do not use any substances and be driving even those substances are prescription drugs,” Sgt. Dorcy Riddle said.

Neighbors say this is another sad wake up call for everyone.

“It's very selfish of one person to come along and stop the lives of entire family. I don't like to get my kids on the road on the weekends at dark but even then this happened in the middle of the day on a Sunday. It's hard you always want to keep your family safe,” Sarah Jones said.
