Third Ward residents get letters challenging voting rights

Some residents in Third Ward recently received letters telling them their voter registration would be cancelled if they did not respond within 30 days.

According to the Houston Press, the Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector & Voter Registrar sent the letters after the Republican party questioned whether people had moved and could not confirm their new address.

According to the Texas election code, a registered voter may challenge the registration of another voter. The chairman of the Harris County Republican Party’s Ballot Security Committee, has reportedly delivered 4,000 challenges to the Harris County Registrar.

On the Factor to talk about this is Third Ward resident Lynn Lane who received one of the letters.
