STAFFORD, Texas - A Stafford man has been sentenced to prison after he was caught sexually abusing his girlfriend's child.
Jose Antonio Argueta-Santos pled guilty to the offenses of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child and Indecency with a Child by Sexual Contact.
Argueta-Santos, 32, was sentenced to 22 years in prison for the Aggravated Sexual Assault charge, and 20 years for the Indecency with a Child charge, in an agreement with prosecutors.
The prison sentences will be served concurrently.
According to officials, in June 2020, Fort Bend County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a home in the Stafford area.
Deputies arrived to learn that Argueta-Santos was caught sexually abusing a nine-year-old child at the home by the victim's mother, who was his girlfriend. Argueta-Santos was immediately arrested.
The child told investigators of more sexual abuse acts by the suspect.
"This case is a mother’s worst nightmare: to witness your child being sexually abused, and worse, by someone you trusted enough to invite into your home," said Lead prosecutor Charann Thompson. "This child is a hero for having the courage to speak out and put an end to their nightmare."
"I commend the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office, Detective Dawn Welch and other deputies who worked on the case, for conducting a thorough investigation that brought a sex offender to justice in Fort Bend County," District Attorney Brian Middleton added.
