Several Houston-area restaurants targeted by burglars

Several Houston-area restaurant owners say they've been a target of burglars.

What they're saying:

"They popped the glass. This is a very heavy window so the whole thing falls. You can see them step back," said Paul Miller, Owner of Vine Memorial and Gr8 Plate Hospitality. "There's a steel table on the other side of the window. They tried to push it open, couldn't get in, turn, and go walking off."

The burglars got nothing, but Miller got a $3,000 bill for a new window.

"I think the old impression is there's a lot of cash that people have sitting around in restaurants," Miller said. "The fact of the matter is the way people pay today with credit cards, there's very little cash, if any."

"We go through different emotions where you're angry, because no one's really being held responsible," said Mechelle Tran, Owner of Riel Restaurant. "The police want to help. But if there's no punishment, there's no deterrent."

Tran's restaurant at 1927 Fairview was also hit early Tuesday morning. Again, it's two burglars.

"There's no real reason anyone would want to break in, except to look in hopes that we might have something., but we have no cash here. We have nothing in here," Tran said.

"All the windows were broken, this complex, all of them, mine was broken as well," said Numan Ali, Owner of Daiquiri Island. "They took my cash register. They broke into my safe."

Ali's is one of several restaurants at 12647 Tomball Parkway hit apparently by the same burglars, just a few nights ago.

"At some point, you know, you kind of just admit defeat," said Tran. "I think a lot of us, kind of have."
