Pct. 6 Constable Siliva Trevino sued by former deputy

Harris County Constable Precinct 6 Silvia Trevino is being accused of racial and religious discrimination in a new lawsuit filed by a former deputy.

In the lawsuit, former Precinct 6 training Sgt. Radha Patel claims she was fired by Trevino after objecting to hiring practices which favored Latinos over better-qualified African American and Muslim candidates.

Patel also alleges in the lawsuit that former Constable Victor Trevino, the current constable's husband, was a "constant presence" at Precinct 6 despite his conviction in 2014 on felony theft charges.

The lawsuit alleges Silvia Trevino traded jobs in her department in exchange for campaign contributions.

In an email, Trevino tells FOX 26 her former deputy is disgruntled and was fired in June 2018 for over 10 policy violations.

The Harris County Attorney's Office tells FOX 26 they're looking into allegations of the lawsuit but they cannot comment on the actual suit just yet. They will represent the law enforcement agency when the case gets to court.
