NWS gives tropical wave 60 percent chance to organize into depression

The disorganized disturbance east of Cancun now has a 60 percent chance of developing into a depression or tropical storm later this week. As of now, none of our computer models is showing a strong system from timing, but it could still bring some late-week rain to the Texas coastline.

The rain were seeing in the Houston-area today is unrelated to this system. Flash Flood Watch is posted for the coastal counties of SE Texas including Houston until 6 p.m. Tuesday. The rain is currently to the southwest, but it’s expected to move into Houston later in the morning. Our main concern today and tomorrow will be the potential for some street flooding if heavy storms continue to move into the city. Expect more rain closer to Houston by this afternoon, overnight and probably tomorrow as well.
