The incident unfolded around 4:45 a.m. Wednesday in the 26000 block Aberdeen Drive, when deputies responded to a report of a disturbance between family members.

The sheriff’s office says the deputies encountered a man who refused to follow commands and resisted arrest, hitting the deputy. Officials say the deputy sustained a significant injury to his face.

After being punched, the deputy stepped back and deployed his taser, authorities say.

As a second deputy tried to detain the man, the sheriff’s office says the suspect reached for his firearm. The other deputy, who had been punched, shot the man, the sheriff’s office says.

The deputies attempted life-saving measures until EMS arrived and transported the suspect and the deputy to the hospital, authorities say.

The suspect died from his injuries. His identity has not yet been released.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office and the Texas Rangers are investigating the incident.
