La Marque superintendent of schools resigns

Terri Watkins, La Marque Independent School District superintendent, has announced her resignation in the following statement:

Effective at the end of the first semester of the 2015 school year, I submit my resignation as Superintendent of Schools of the La Marque Independent School District.  I will remain the superintendent until December 18, 2015.  I have dedicated the past 24 months working alongside the Board of Trustees to improve the quality of education we provide to the children in our community.  I am proud to say that La Marque ISD students met the academic standards set by the Texas Education Agency.  Our children were given the challenge to reach specified goals set, and they answered all the critics as to their academic abilities.  Our children are phenomenal!  They deserve the recognition, and I will continue to praise their efforts.

La Marque ISD Board of Trustees has approved bold and sweeping changes across this district to include the following.

• Districtwide Staff reorganization
• 21st Century afterschool program
• Curriculum program updates
• Significant fund balance increase
• Restoration of staff furlough days
• Staff pay raises
• Efficient board meeting
• Facility updates

It is critical that the current board remain intact to continue the work that has begun.  This board gave me a chance to prove myself, and I will always appreciate being part of this Team of Eight.  This board understands the concept of putting the needs of children first.  This team had the misfortune of cleaning up processes and procedures from the past; however, those in the future will reap the benefit of all the work that has been done to improve the operation of our district.

Thank you so much to the staff and community.  I will treasure your support and cooperation.  The effort of Standing Strong for our children in La Marque ISD must continue.  I will always be a La Marque Cougar!  Once a Coog, Always a Coog!
