What they're saying:
"We were not ready for you to go yet but knowing you are finally free to sing, dance, and paint again makes it a tad easier," Sydney Pitt wrote.

The backstory:
Brad Pitt and his siblings were raised in Springfield, Missouri by Jane Etta Pitt and his father, William Pitt. Brad Pitt has said they were raised in a strict, Southern Baptist household. Brad Pitt and his mom were on opposite ends of the political spectrum (his mom wrote local op-eds against Barack Obama), but he has described his mom as "very, very loving - very open, genuine."

Brad Pitt’s mom accompanied him on the red carpet several times, including the 2012 Academy Awards. She appeared on "The Late Show with David Letterman" in 2002 to briefly roast her son. It was part of a Mother’s Day segment in which celebrities’ moms shared advice with their children.
"Don't believe all the hype you read about yourself, honey," she joked. "Actually, you're a short, overweight bald guy."
