Human remains found along Lake Houston

HOUSTON (FOX 26) - Volunteers discovered something disturbing during a cleanup effort along Lake Houston on Saturday morning.

Someone found a garbage bag with what appeared to be a human head inside. A gun was later found. Houston Police Department homicide investigators arrived before 12 p.m. Saturday following the discovery.

The person who found the head said it appeared to be that of a young female, but the Houston Forensic Science Center will work to determine the age and gender.

The volunteers were working as part of Texas Adaptive Aquatics, a charitable organization that helps disabled children enjoy the thrill of water skiing. The event was part of the River, Lakes, Bays 'N Bayous Trash Bash®, which took part along waterways throughout Texas.
