Houston weather update: Mild tonight, cold front brings weekend chill and potential arctic blast next week

Tonight in Houston

Mostly cloudy and mild with temperatures near 55. Wind switches from south to west as a cold front moves through.

The Weekend:

Rain chances are at 20% early Saturday with the cold front sweeping through by late Saturday morning. Temperatures climbed to near 60 on Saturday.  

For the Houston Marathon, temperatures will be much colder... middle to upper 30s with wind chills in the upper 20s.  It will be breezy with gusts of 20-25 mph. Temperatures Sunday only in the middle 40s.

Next Week

Models indicate the likelihood of another arctic blast early next week which will likely bring the coldest air so far this season and the coldest air in about one year! We will likely go under a "COLD WEATHER ADVISORY" for early next week. "HARD FREEZE WARNING" is also likely to be issued for much of the area. 

MLK DAY:

MLK Day will be cold and breezy with high temperatures near 40 and lows in the 20s. Light wintry precipitation could develop late Monday night.

Tuesday - Wednesday:

There are increasing chances for wintry precipitation between early Tuesday morning and Tuesday night! 

Right now the chance for any freezing rain, sleet or snow would be around 50-70% Tuesday. 

Keep checking back for updates! At this time, Houston could pick up anywhere from a trace to 2 inches of snow Tuesday morning through Tuesday night. 

Drier weather is expected Wednesday but roads could still be slick and icy.
