Deadly Third Ward shooting
Deadly Houston shooting adds to Third Ward residents' frustrations about crime
A contract worker was shot and killed on Calumet Street while working early Wednesday. FOX 26's Leslie DelasBour spoke to a Third Ward resident who lives near the scene and says the shooting is the latest example of crime in the area.
The backstory:
Officers were called to the 2500 block of Calumet Street, near Live Oak Street, around 12:40 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a shooting outside a business.
According to the owner, Jimmy Arevalo was doing contract commercial work in the kitchen and helping pressure wash different utensils and other dishes outside.
Police say surveillance video shows the man outside washing pots and pans when a silver or gray truck pulled into the parking lot.

The person in the truck got Arevalo’s attention, and he walked up to the truck, officials say. The two began speaking, but it’s unclear what was being said.
Houston police report the suspect got out of the truck to speak some more to Arevalo. Suddenly, the suspect shot Arevalo point-blank, got back inside the truck, and drove off, police say.
People inside the business, including some family members of the man, heard the commotion and went outside. The victim's brother was the one who found his brother on the ground.
