Hip hop mogul James Prince releases memoir

He's known as the godfather of southern rap and businessman who has no limits. On the Factor, anchor Isiah Carey chats with the man who put Houston’s music scene on the international map – James Prince.

James Prince has been able to build a legacy. In 1986, he left the routine 9-to-5 to build a rap label that has given us some household names – from the Geto Boys to Z-Ro to Big Mike. Rap-A-Lot Records started the whole southern rap movement with James Prince at the helm. His influence on the music industry is profound. He and his son Jas were instrumental in giving the world superstar rapper Drake. The proof of his success is clear with platinum and gold records that line his office at Rap-A-Lot and his Houston penthouse.

Since starting the record label, Prince has expanded his business ventures from studio facilities to a condom company and a boxing managing business. He’s guided the careers of Andre Ward and even Floyd Mayweather in the past.

The sky is the limit when it comes to Prince. He’s decided to do even more by releasing his memoirs in a new book called "The Art and Science of Respect".
