Folks protest in support of Colin Kaepernick outside NRG Stadium

At the corner of McNee Road and Kirby Sunday afternoon, hundreds met to rally in support of former 49er's quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

"Once he explained the issue, his initial statement was 'I'm kneeling down against police brutality, I'm kneeling down against injustice, I'm kneeling down against racism, I'm kneeling down against oppression of people of all colors', I said 'we must stand with him'", says E.A. Deckard, founder and pastor of Green House International Church.

Speakers say the protest was to voice concerns about equality, justice, police brutality and an alleged comment Houston Texans owner Bob McNair recently made.

When the rally was over, the group took the streets to march and take a knee together.

However, not everyone was in support of their cause. Some laid on their car horns to mask the chants while other simply put a thumb down.

"I enjoy coming in and watching football, I don't want people to be telling me 'politics this, politics that'. There's a point for other things to do that, not in sports," says Juan Zapata who was out at the tailgate watching the game with his family.

Pastor Deckard says the issues they are raising are ones that need to be talked about. He says "it's not about black or white it's about a community coming together to make sure right is done. Why are we doing this? Because it's the right thing to do."

The Houston Texans sent us a statement in regards to Bob McNair:

We made it abundantly clear that Bob McNair was referring to the league office and its employees, not the players, when the statement in question was made. Bob McNair's many contributions to the community have been well documented. The Texans will continue to support our players commitment to the city through our year-round efforts to make a difference.
