Fans get excited for Astros Opening Day at watch party

HOUSTON (FOX 26) - It’s Opening Day for the Houston Astros. Will the ‘Stros win in it all again this year? We caught up with fans at a big home team watch party in Northwest Houston as the Astros take on Tampa Bay at Tropicana Field in Florida.

"Go Astroooooooooos!” one man yelled into our microphone.

Fans have come decked out, supporting the Astros from head to toe. 

"All of this is custom made from Mexico,” explains Javier Esparza, who’s sporting an orange Astros mask, cape and t-shirt. 

Is this your lucky jersey? I ask Jason Bainbridge. 

"It is”.

Will it make the team win? 

“I hope so,” Bainbridge answers.

What are fans looking forward to most this season? 

“Another World Series win,” smiles Jay Justilian. 

After winning the World Series championship two seasons ago, fans are looking forward to the Astros doing it again.

“We’ve got the pitching and the offense to do it. We’ll see how the back end rotation holds up. Our offense can compete with anybody out there this year,” adds J.W. Beauchamp.

"I’m so excited to see what their season is going to be like. I really became a big fan in the last couple of years,” says Arianne Jackson.

Who’s the fan favorite? 

"I try not to pick favorites,” smiles one fan. 

"Favorite player? Josh Reddick of course,” as he points out Reddick’s name on the back of his jersey.

”My favorite? Uh Springer. He’s cute,” laughs Ricki Vasquez.

“You gotta go with Altuve. The little engine that could that just never stops".

“They’re all my guys and they’re going to do it again this year”. 

As Astros fans packed the party there were plenty of people cheering “take it back”. 

Astros home opener is Friday, April 5, 2019 at Minute Maid Park against the Oakland A’s.
