If you're a black woman pregnant in America, you're three, even four times more likely to die from complications than a white woman.
And not only that, if you're expecting at all, you're already in more danger than pregnant women in any other developed country.
Bottom line, America doesn't have it all figured out.
The CDC says a significant number of these deaths could be prevented.
Here in Texas, a State Task Force was created last year to take a hard look this.
Texas Representative Shawn Theirry also filed a bill that pointed the task force in the right direction.
Things like treating postpartum depression, economically disadvantaged women are all a part of the data collection process that will help doctors in the future.
