Oliver the African Watusi is a social media star after trip inside Petco

Oliver the African Watusi is a 1,600-pound social media star.

Oliver made headlines when he walked into the Petco in Atascocita, testing the store policy that any pet on a leash is welcome. The staff welcomed the 14-year-old steer with open arms.

The video gathered millions of views on social media, and Oliver gained thousands of followers.

Oliver saddled up on Monday for Houston's Morning Show, along with his owners Vincent Browning and Shelly Lumpkin. 

Shelly says Oliver has been traveling to events for 10 years. It was on the way back from an event when they stopped in at Petco.

"Well we were actually on our way home from an event and we always go to that store anyway. So they kind of know us and we've told them about Oliver before," Shelly says.

They asked a Petco employee if she wanted to go out and meet Oliver, and she invited Oliver inside the store instead. Shelly says the manager was very welcoming.

Since the video went viral, Shelly says they've received requests to attend events across the country including in Washington, D.C., and New York.
