This morning was our coolest in about 211 days since March 20th with Bush Airport making it down to 47 degrees and Hobby Airport making it down to 49 degrees! With lots of sun today, temperatures quickly rebounded with widespread 70s in the area. Look for another clear and cool night with very little wind. Temperatures will dip to the 50s for Houston with some 40s expected north of Houston. Get ready for summer to say "hello" to us once again as we heat up the rest of this week. In fact, we'll be close to 90 by Friday! Weak front will bring a brief wind shift and drop in humidity Friday. But there will only be a very small chance for rain Thursday and Friday. Look for a few more showers next Tuesday.

With only about 6 weeks left in hurricane season, things are a bit less active than earlier in the year in the Atlantic Basin. No tropical activity is showing up in the Gulf of Mexico or Caribbean Sea for now. However, it's still looking like invest 94-L, a tropical wave in the central Atlantic, will become our next tropical depression or storm soon. It will make it to parts of the Lesser Antilles later this week but should turn north before it would get anywhere close to SE Texas. The eastern Pacific is still busy with newly formed Tropical Storm Norma and another tropical wave. We may get some moisture from these systems about a week from now that would increase our rain chances.

Are you ready for some of the coolest temperatures since this past winter? It's very possible overnight as I expect temperatures in Houston to dip to the 40s for the first time since March 20th. High pressure will settle in and that will mean wind settling down and mostly clear skies. Plan on throwing on an extra layer in the morning. If the fall chill is not your thing, heat builds later this week. In fact, we are back close to 90 by Friday and Saturday. A weak front may bring a stray shower or two Thursday and Friday. But overall, there will be very little rain this week.

Invest 94-L is in the east-central tropical Atlantic with a medium chance of development over the next 48 hours. It has a high chance to become our next tropical cyclone over the next 7 days. Tammy is up next on our list of tropical cyclone names for the Atlantic Basin. The Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean remain quiet for now with no activity expected over the next few days. Historically, our chance of being hit by a tropical cyclone starts to decrease between now and the end of hurricane season. But you still want to stay alert for the possibility of a tropical system since the Gulf of Mexico waters remain very warm. Hurricane season runs through November 30th.
