FOX 26 Houston Weather Forecast

Look for a few strong storms possibly grazing our NW counties tonight, especially from College Station to Brenham. Storms should weaken though before reaching Houston. Otherwise, storm chances remain very low through the holiday weekend but the heat will be increasing. Look for high temperatures in the middle to upper 90s with dangerous heat index values around 105 to 110. That means the first heat advisories of the year will likely be issued by Sunday or Monday. So do what you can to stay safe in the heat by drinking lots of water, taking frequent breaks while working outside and checking your car for kids or pets before you walk away. Also use caution while swimming at the beach this weekend with a high rip current risk and high surf expected for Galveston beach and other area beaches. Weak cold front arrives late Monday into Tuesday that will knock temperatures down a few degrees and bring in slightly lower humidity. The heat is on! Yikes, south Texas could have a heat index up to 115! Around here, we'll remain close to heat advisory criteria with lows near 80 and afternoon heat index values close to 108. Storms chances are mainly northwest of Houston in the College Station to Brenham area tonight. Also, please expect and respect the risk for rip currents at our beaches through Memorial Day, so only strong swimmers should go all the way in the water.

It's a steam bath again and it's only getting hotter through the holiday weekend. Look for highs today in the low 90s with a heat index near 100. There is a chance for isolated evening storms close to Huntsville and College Station over the next couple of days. For the Memorial Day weekend, the combination of high humidity and hotter temperatures could lead to a heat advisory being issued for the first time this year. Also be aware that rip currents will be possible at our beaches, so please swim with caution.

FOX 26 Houston Weather Forecast

We have two main weather issues we are focusing on today.... the dangerous heat building and the threat for a few severe storms tonight. There are still thousands across SE Texas still without power from last Thursday's deadly storms and the heat is creating dangerous conditions. Look for the possibility of a few strong to severe storms making it into our northern counties tonight before weakening. Chance is low but strong winds and hail will be main threats along with a few heavy downpours. Best chance will be The Woodlands and areas north through midnight. We then transition to hot, steamy and mostly dry weather heading into the holiday weekend. Rain chances Thursday - Monday will only be around 10% but the heat will be building. Look for temperatures to soar to the middle to upper 90s this weekend with heat index values of 105+ by Sunday. That means a Heat Advisory could be right around the corner for the Houston area. So drink lots of water, take breaks and try to find a cooling center if you are still without power.
