SPRING (FOX 26) - Westfield High School will have two players in the prestigious Under Armour All-American Game.
The annual event is a matchup featuring 90 of the nation's top high school football players. It is viewed as one of the elite high school all-star football games around.
Both Ed Oliver and Tyrie Cleveland qualify as elite.
Oliver is ranked by all recruiting services as one of the top defensive tackles in the country. He is a key part of Tom Herman's "Htown Takeover," verbally committing to the Cougars over offers from all the big programs from around the country. When Oliver made his commitment to UH, Herman's crew hadn't yet gone off on their torrid start that has them unbeaten and now ranked 21st in the country. The program certainly appears to be on the rise.
"I knew this was going to happen, I called it before everybody way back when," Oliver said with a smile. "It just took a little minute for everybody to realize that they're a contender."
As for Cleveland, he hasn't yet made the final decision yet on his recruitment, but UH is in the receiver's final eight schools. Like Oliver, he has offers from around the country from all the big programs, including Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Arizona State, Arkansas, TCU, Mississippi, and Florida.
"It's just feeling about home, feeling comfortable about the situation," Cleveland said of his pending decision. "Just someone who can be real with me."
As for the current day's events, the Under Armour honor hadn't yet sunk in moments after the presentation.
"It still blows me away as I think about it," Cleveland said. "But it's another goal that I've accomplished and I keep striving for greatness."
Oliver was focused more on his team's goals and Westfield's practice that both he and Cleveland were about to head to, but he was still glad to have this moment in front of his family.
"It's an incredible feeling," Oliver said. "It's like no other. I'm really at a loss for words right now. I just have to experience it when I get out there (to the Under Armour game)."
The Under Armour All-American game will be nationally televised on January 2, 2016.
