HOUSTON - Odessa College forward Devin Davis, a First-Team NJCAA All-American, committed to play at the University of Houston.
Davis, 6-7, 230 pounds, played one year at Indiana before transferring to Odessa College, where he averaged 16.8 points and 8.2 rebounds this past season.
“I committed to the University of Houston and Coach Sampson,” Davis said in an interview with FOX 26 Sports. I chose Houston over Iowa State, Ole Miss, Cincinnati, Purdue and Temple.
“I did it because I feel like this is going to help me better myself as a player and as a person.”
Davis will begin playing for the Cougars this coming season, and has two years of eligibility.
“Coach Sampson and I have a really good relationship,” Davis said. “I trust Coach Sampson. He trusts me.”
Before transferring to Odessa College, Davis and another player were dismissed by Indiana in 2015 “for not living up to their responsibilities to the program.”
Since taking over at UH Sampson has worked to add stronger and more physical players like Davis to the Cougars roster.
“I'm ready to work. I'm ready to play,” Davis said.
