Zion National Park hiker found dead after apparent fall

Authorities in Utah said they found a deceased male on the Canyon Overlook Trail in Zion National Park over the weekend. 

What we know:

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said the Consolidated Communications Center received a call about a hike possibly falling at the park.

First responders arrived and found the man dead and beyond help. 

What we don't know:

Authorities have not released the name of the man. 

What's next:

The sheriff's office said deputies are still conducting an investigation into exactly what happened, but no further details are available.

"The Washington County Sheriff’s Office expresses our gratitude to Hurricane Valley Fire and Rescue, Zion Park Rangers, and the Zion Technical Search and Rescue for their assistance," posted on its Facebook page.

This is the second deadly fall in recent months at Zion National Park. 

In October, the CEO of a Utah-based software company tragically died after falling 200 feet while climbing in Zion National Park in Springdale, Utah, according to officials.

Justin Bingham, 40, was canyoneering near the exit of Heaps Canyon, where he fell approximately 150 to 200 feet, the National Parks Service (NPS) confirmed in a statement.
