A McKinney man is now behind bars for murdering his estranged wife and her twin sister.

Kelley Bigham, 50, was arrested at his lake house in Rains County Monday night. He’s charged with capital for the deaths of 49-year-olds Karen Bigham and Kathy Boobar.

Kathy’s family told FOX 4 that Karen and Kelley were in the process of getting a divorce. They said Karen wanted Kathy to be there when Kelley stopped by the house to pick up some of his belongings. She was worried something might happen.

"She told me yesterday that her sister needed her and she was going up there to be supportive of her so she headed up there after work," said Tom Boobar, Kathy's husband.

According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Kelley showed up at the home in the 2800 block of High Pointe Boulevard around 5:40 p.m. with a handgun. He told his daughter and young grandson to leave.

The daughter told police that she heard gunshots followed by screams as she was leaving. She also got a text message from her father that said, “I’m sorry,” the affidavit states.

The Boobar's, who have a strong belief in God, say they aren't angry and find comfort knowing their loved ones are in a better place -- together.

“We might not understand this. But had something happened to Karen -- and Kathy not have been there -- she would’ve been so distraught,” Tim Boobar said. “I don't know that she could've live with herself knowing that she could've been there to help Karen out. So when you think about that. They came into this world together and went out together we're going to celebrate their lives together.”

Kelley is now being held in the Collin County jail. His bond was set at $1.5 million.
