HOUSTON (FOX 26) - It's called "Fridays for Future". Thousands of students around the world are leaving their classrooms in hopes of bringing attention to climate change.
The global climate strike saw students in more than 100 countries take a stand against their local government, blaming lawmakers for failing future generations by not cutting emissions or curbing global warming.
According to The Guardian, students across the United Kingdom are obtaining growing academic backing from their professors for skipping class to protest climate change.
The global youth movement has now gained traction in the United States, where more than 100 cities saw protest groups active on Friday, March 15. The movement first started on a worldwide level when Greta Thunberg, now a Nobel Peace Prize nominee, sat outside Swedish parliament every Friday since August.
Students interested in joining a group or registering their school can visit the Fridays for Future website for more information.
